Who do you call tomorrow if your business is hacked?
Most growing businesses have IT support. Almost none have a senior cyber owner, and almost none have a number to call in the first five minutes of an incident. Mastiff is both.
Mastiff Incident Response and Mastiff Guardian
Two ways to cut what cyber risk costs your business — in money, in downtime, and in the time it takes to find the right person when something goes wrong. Most clients start with one of these two. Everything else Mastiff does sits underneath them.
Mastiff Incident Response
Who it's for: any business that doesn't currently know who to call in the first five minutes of a breach.
A consultant without this in place charges £250–£300/hour with a six-to-eight-hour minimum. One call to Mastiff removes that risk before it costs you.
- Emergency line, answered by a triage specialist within 2 minutes
- Connected to a dedicated incident responder within 2 hours
- First hour of hands-on remediation included; anything beyond that quoted upfront at pre-agreed rates
- Backed by a bench of 50+ specialists, with backgrounds at BAE Systems, Deloitte, PwC and major UK insurers
- Designated email channel for ongoing cybersecurity questions
- Practical cyber-hygiene guidance included as standard
Mastiff Guardian
Who it's for: businesses with IT support or an MSP, but no one senior enough to own cyber risk or answer to the board.
A leader of this calibre typically costs £170,000 a year to hire full-time. Guardian gives you that same level of expertise for a fraction of the cost, with no contract.
- A named senior cyber lead — CISO experience at Stagecoach and a top-five UK insurer, plus consultancy work with ASDA and Wix
- Monthly leadership meeting and board-ready written reporting
- Initial security review and a prioritised risk & action register
- Independent review of your security spend, cutting overlapping and unused tools
- A practical roadmap, sequenced against real business risk, not a generic checklist
- Support with customer, insurer and supplier security questions
- Full Mastiff Incident Response included as standard
The deeper capability behind Guardian and Incident Response
Project-based and specialist work that Guardian clients draw on, and that stands alone for businesses that need one thing done well.
Mastiff Watchdog
Full 24/7/365 detection, threat hunting and response. Every endpoint in your business, covered.
Penetration Testing
Infrastructure, web, cloud and identity testing, scoped to your business.
Compliance
Prepare for ISO 27001 and SOC 2, align with NIST CSF, work towards Cyber Essentials.
gov.uk, 2025
“Mastiff's spend review found tools we were paying for twice over. The savings alone paid for the service. The peace of mind is the bit we didn't expect to value as much as we do.”
“The IT team have really enjoyed having the Guardian package. They're learning so much from James. It really has enhanced our security posture and helped reduce our insurance costs.”
Cyber leadership thinking, from Mastiff
Practical posts on cyber leadership, incident response and running security like a business, published on LinkedIn as Mastiff grows.
Follow Mastiff on LinkedInExperienced people, not another software subscription
Mastiff is built around specialists who have done this work inside real businesses, not a dashboard that tells you something's wrong and leaves you to work out what to do about it.
Senior cyber leadership, without the cost of a full-time hire
You've got IT support. You've got an MSP. What you don't have is someone whose entire job is to sit above all of that and own the risk. That's Guardian.
Businesses with an IT provider or internal IT team, but no one senior enough to own cyber risk, prioritise spend, or answer to the board when it's asked.
Everything in Incident Response, plus ongoing senior cybersecurity oversight
Everything In Mastiff Incident Response
The full Incident Response package is included as standard: the response line, initial triage, the designated email channel and one hour of hands-on remediation per customer.
A Named Senior Cyber Lead
A real person, not a helpdesk ticket — senior cybersecurity consultancy experience with brands including ASDA, Wix and Stagecoach, and CISO experience at Stagecoach and at a top-five UK insurance broker, taking personal responsibility for your cybersecurity infrastructure and working directly with your IT team or MSP.
Initial Security Review
A review of your current security position right at the start, so you know the gaps that matter most before you decide what to prioritise.
Prioritised Risk & Action Register
What to fix, who owns it and why it matters, kept up to date as your business and the threat picture change.
Monthly Cyber Health Reporting
A clear, board-readable update on your security position, key risks and progress made, plus a review meeting in plain English.
Guidance For Your IT Team
Practical direction for your IT team or provider on controls, vulnerabilities and sensible remediation priorities.
A Practical Security Roadmap
Improvements sequenced against real business risk, so spend follows what actually matters rather than a generic checklist.
Independent Input On Spend
Independent guidance on security tools and spend, so your investment follows the risks, not a vendor's sales pitch.
Customer & Insurer Support
Support with customer, insurer and supplier security questions, and upcoming requirements you'll need to meet.
Incident Planning & Escalation
Planning and escalation advice ahead of time, with access to specialist response the moment an incident occurs.
Guardian is not a like-for-like replacement for a full-time CISO
It's fractional leadership for businesses that don't need, or can't yet justify, a full-time senior hire. A cybersecurity leader of this calibre would typically command £170,000 a year in a full-time role. With Mastiff Guardian, you get access to that same level of expertise for a fraction of the cost.
| Full-time senior hire | Mastiff Guardian | |
|---|---|---|
| Commitment | Recruitment, onboarding, one person's bandwidth | No contract, cancel any time |
| Bench strength | Limited to one person's experience | Backed by a wider specialist bench |
| Best fit | Large or regulated organisations | Growing businesses that need senior ownership now |
Full-time senior hire
Mastiff Guardian
Guardian is fractional leadership, not a substitute for regulatory roles that legally require a named, full-time officer.
Tech-stack savings covered three months of Guardian
“Mastiff's spend review found tools we were paying for twice over. The savings alone paid for the service. The peace of mind is the bit we didn't expect to value as much as we do.”
A trusted cyber emergency line, before you ever need it
If a serious cyber incident happens tomorrow, does your business actually know who to call? Mastiff Incident Response puts that answer in place today: a direct line to trained responders, ready before the crisis, not scrambled together during it. You get instant access to an elite team of cybersecurity incident responders, with backgrounds at organisations including BAE Systems, Deloitte, PwC and major UK insurers.
This package has the answer. It covers the emergency line, initial triage and guidance, a designated email channel for cybersecurity questions, and one hour of hands-on remediation with a cybersecurity expert, included once per customer. Any further substantive incident-response work is separately scoped and charged.
Four things the line gives you
NO CONTRACTS · ROLLING MONTHLY
Fast Triage, Fast Connection
Call the emergency number and an initial triage specialist assesses your situation within 2 minutes. You're connected with a dedicated cybersecurity incident responder within 2 hours.
Your First Hour, Free
Your first hour of remediation with that responder is free, included once per customer. Anything beyond that is quoted upfront at pre-agreed rates — no emergency call-out premiums, no hunting for help.
Designated Email Channel
A designated email channel for cybersecurity questions and practical guidance, whenever something doesn't feel right.
Practical Cyber Hygiene Guidance
Practical literature and guidance on everyday cyber hygiene — email security, password practices and simple steps to cut your risk.
If in doubt, it counts
General guidance, always confirmed against your specific situation on the call
Be careful with
- Powering systems off before speaking to Mastiff, since this can depend on the incident and can sometimes destroy evidence
- Paying a ransom demand without advice
- Deleting suspicious emails or files before they're reviewed
Do
- Call Mastiff, even if you're not sure it's serious
- Disconnect an affected device from the network if it's safe to do so
- Note down what you've observed and when
Backed by a specialist bench, not one person
Mastiff draws on a bench of around 50 cybersecurity specialists on call, with backgrounds including BAE Systems, Deloitte, PwC and major UK insurers — matched to the incident in front of you rather than whoever happens to be free.
Every endpoint in your business, watched every hour of every day
Mastiff Watchdog is full 24/7/365 detection, threat hunting and response — MDR, XDR and a real Security Operations Centre working together across every device, identity and inbox you have. Real analysts, not just software, watching for what a firewall alone will never catch. If there's a problem, we find it and we fix it, whether that's 3pm on a Tuesday or 3am on a Sunday.
Building this in-house means hiring a shift of SOC analysts, licensing a SIEM and running a 24/7 rota — well into six figures a year before you've stopped a single attack. Watchdog brings you the same capability for a fixed monthly fee, live from day one.
Always watching — the same principle as everything else Mastiff does.
This is not antivirus with a subscription fee
Watchdog is the same calibre of detection and response you'd expect from an enterprise security operations centre, built for businesses that were told they couldn't afford one.
Three acronyms, one job: catching what everyone else misses
MDR — Managed Detection & Response
Continuous monitoring plus a human team who investigate and act on what's found, not just an alert dropped in your inbox at 2am.
XDR — Extended Detection & Response
Every signal — endpoint, network, identity, email and cloud — correlated in one place, instead of siloed tools that don't talk to each other.
SOC — Security Operations Centre
The analysts and the room, watching in shifts, 24/7/365, so a threat never just waits for Monday morning.
Vulnerability & Attack Surface Management
Continuous scanning so you know what's exposed to the internet before an attacker finds it first.
Governance, Risk & Compliance Reporting
Reporting that maps to what your insurer, your customers and an auditor will actually ask to see.
Operational Technology & Industrial Cybersecurity
Available for manufacturing and critical infrastructure environments, where a breach means a stopped production line, not just a locked laptop.
No setup fee. No minimum term. No VAT.
Detection
24/7/365 monitoring across every endpoint, identity, email and cloud environment in your business.
Human investigation
Every alert reviewed by a real analyst around the clock, never left to software alone to decide.
Threat hunting
Proactive, ongoing hunts for attacker activity that hasn't tripped an alert yet, the way a serious SOC operates.
Detection & remediation
Confirmed threats are contained and remediated fast, with no hourly cap. Major incidents escalate straight into full Mastiff Incident Response.
Reporting
Regular, plain-English reporting on what was seen, what was done about it, and what it means for your business.
Watchdog, antivirus, your IT provider, Guardian and Incident Response aren't the same thing
| Service | What it actually does |
|---|---|
| Antivirus | Blocks known malicious files on a device. No human watching. |
| Your IT provider / MSP | Keeps systems running day to day. Not typically watching for active threats around the clock. |
| Mastiff Watchdog (24/7 MDR/XDR/SOC) | Full 24/7/365 human-led detection, threat hunting and response across every endpoint. |
| Mastiff Guardian | Senior leadership, risk ownership and spend review: the strategy layer above Watchdog. |
| Incident Response | The relationship and specialist access for when something has already happened. |
Antivirus
Blocks known malicious files. No human watching.
IT provider / MSP
Keeps systems running, not watching around the clock.
Mastiff Watchdog
Full 24/7/365 human-led detection, hunting and response.
Guardian
Leadership and risk ownership above Watchdog.
The cost of not watching is higher than the cost of Watchdog
A single missed alert can mean a locked-out business by Monday morning. Watchdog exists to make sure that call never has to be made in the first place — for less than the cost of a single incident response engagement.
Penetration Testing
Structured, scoped testing that shows exactly where a real attacker would get in, and what to do about it — delivered by CREST-calibre testers, not an automated scanner with a report generator.
Assurance you can hand to whoever's asking for it
External infrastructure
Internal infrastructure
Web application
Cloud
Microsoft 365 & identity
API
Wireless
Social engineering
Scope & rules of engagement
What's in scope, what's off-limits, and when testing happens.
Fixed-price proposal
A clear quote before work starts — no day-rate surprises once testing is underway.
Testing
Hands-on testing by an experienced tester, not an automated scan alone.
Findings
Every issue rated by real-world severity, with evidence, peer-reviewed before it reaches you.
Free retest
Optional retest of remediated findings, included at no extra cost.
Executive summary
A non-technical summary for the board or ownership.
Technical findings
Detailed findings with evidence for your technical team.
Severity ratings
Every issue ranked by real-world impact and likelihood.
Remediation guidance
Specific, practical steps to close each finding.
Debrief call
A walkthrough of the report with your team.
Free retest
Confirmation that fixes actually worked, at no extra cost.
Fixed-price testing beats a day-rate contractor
A freelance tester billed by the day has no reason to finish early. A fixed-price, peer-reviewed engagement from Mastiff's specialist bench gives you a clear cost upfront and a report built to be acted on, not padded out to fill a week.
Prepare for ISO 27001 and SOC 2, align with NIST CSF, and work towards Cyber Essentials
Mastiff does the groundwork so certification, when you pursue it, isn't a scramble — and costs a fraction of hiring a full-time compliance manager to do it.
The full path from where you are to assessment-ready
Gap Assessment
Where you stand today against the framework you're targeting, and what's actually missing.
Risk Assessment
Identifying and prioritising the information security risks that matter most to your business.
Policy & Process Development
Written policies and controls that match how the business actually works, not a generic template.
Roadmap
A realistic, sequenced plan to close the gaps, with owners and dates.
Evidence Preparation
The documentation an assessor or auditor will actually ask for, organised and ready.
Internal Audit
A skilled internal audit before the real one, so nothing is a surprise on the day.
Ongoing Support
Keeping controls current as the business, and the framework, change.
NIST CSF is a framework to align with, not a certification. ISO 27001, SOC 2 and Cyber Essentials are third-party certifications. Mastiff prepares the business for assessment; certification itself is issued by an accredited body.
Framework and certification names shown are for reference to the standards Mastiff works towards, not a claim that Mastiff currently holds them.
Cheaper than hiring, faster than doing it alone
A dedicated compliance manager costs a salary Mastiff clients don't need to carry. A project-scoped engagement gets you to the same evidence, the same policies and the same audit-readiness, at a fraction of the cost of employing that role directly.
A specialist bench of elite cybersecurity talent, at a fraction of the cost of building it yourself
Mastiff exists on one idea: that growing businesses should get access to the same calibre of cybersecurity talent as a large enterprise — former GCHQ, BAE Systems, Deloitte, PwC and insurance-sector leadership — without carrying the cost of employing any of it directly. Every product Mastiff sells, Guardian, Incident Response, Watchdog, testing and compliance, is the same idea applied to a different problem: less cost, more protection.
A specialist bench, not one generalist
Former GCHQ specialists, BAE Systems consultants, and vCISOs and cybersecurity consultants of the highest calibre in the UK — all available to your business through Mastiff, for a fraction of what it would cost to employ them directly.
Big-four consulting background
Specialists with experience at firms including Deloitte and PwC.
Enterprise security backgrounds
Including former Microsoft cybersecurity analysts.
Insurance-sector leadership
A CISO-level leader from a top-five UK insurance broker.
Critical infrastructure delivery
Specialists who have delivered work at organisations including Jaguar Land Rover, BAE Systems and Sellafield.
Government & defence backgrounds
Individuals with backgrounds spanning GCHQ, the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces.
Cyber insurance specialists
Practical experience of what insurers actually expect to see.
vCISOs & senior consultants
A wider bench of virtual CISOs and cybersecurity consultants, matched to your business as needed.
These are individual contractor backgrounds Mastiff draws on, not corporate partnerships or endorsements from the named organisations.
Every product is the same argument: this should cost you less
Guardian vs a full-time hire
A cyber leader of this calibre costs £170,000 a year full-time. Guardian gives you the same access for a fraction of that, with no contract.
Incident Response vs a day-rate consultant
Consultants without a relationship in place charge £250–£300/hour with a six-to-eight-hour minimum. Mastiff clients get their first hour free.
Watchdog vs an in-house SOC
Properly staffing a 24/7 security operations centre costs six figures a year in analyst salaries alone. Watchdog is a fixed monthly fee.
Compliance vs hiring a manager
A dedicated compliance hire costs a full salary. A scoped engagement gets you the same evidence and audit-readiness for a fraction of it.
Experienced people, not another software subscription
Mastiff is built around specialists who have done this work inside real businesses, not a dashboard that tells you something's wrong and leaves you to work out what to do about it — and around the simple fact that cutting your cyber risk shouldn't mean growing your headcount.
Real incidents. Real outcomes.
These are real case studies drawn from cybersecurity work our team has accumulated over the past five years, anonymised to protect the businesses involved. This is the kind of thing that's actually landing on business owners' desks right now — and the difference a response route in place before it happens can make.

Purple Sector Motorsport: tech-stack savings covered three months of Guardian
Problem
Purple Sector Motorsport had IT support in place but no senior owner of cyber risk, and no visibility into whether their security spend was actually justified.
Mastiff action
A Guardian spend review mapped every tool against what was genuinely in use, surfacing overlapping and duplicated licences alongside a prioritised risk roadmap.
Outcome
The savings identified in the spend review alone covered three months of the Guardian subscription, on top of the ongoing leadership, reporting and incident-response access.
“Mastiff's spend review found tools we were paying for twice over. The savings alone paid for the service. The peace of mind is the bit we didn't expect to value as much as we do.”
DJi Studio: back up and running within 90 minutes
“The team were fantastic. We had a cyber breach. It was resolved within 90 minutes at a fraction of the cost I thought it was going to be. Now we've signed on to Mastiff Watchdog, and it's perfectly suited to a small business like us. It helps me sleep better knowing we're protected.”
iAM: a security posture the whole team learns from
“The IT team have really enjoyed having the Guardian package. They're learning so much from James. It really has enhanced our security posture and helped reduce our insurance costs.”

Privacy Policy
How we handle personal information across our website, enquiries and business relationships.
Effective date: 27 September 2026
1. Who we are
This policy explains how Mastiff Cyber Security uses personal information when you visit mastiffcyber.com, contact us, discuss our services, or act as a business contact. The data controller is Mastiff Cybersecurity Ltd (trading as Mastiff Cyber Security), of Suite A, 82 James Carter Road, Mildenhall, IP28 7DE.
Privacy contact: info@mastiffcyber.com. Mastiff Cybersecurity Ltd is registered in England and Wales under company number 17483892. Telephone: 0161 464 3239.
2. Information we collect
We may collect your name, job title, employer, business contact details, messages and enquiry details; correspondence, meeting notes and service discussions; and technical information such as IP address, device and browser data, referral pages and website usage where our site records it. If you become a customer, we may also handle account, billing and service contact details. Security information shared during an enquiry or engagement may contain personal information; the relevant service agreement and any data processing terms govern delivery of that service.
We may obtain business contact information from you, your employer, publicly available professional sources, referrals, and business contact data providers such as ZoomInfo. We check the relevance of that information and record objections to further contact.
3. Why we use it and our legal grounds
Enquiries and proposals: to answer questions, arrange meetings and prepare proposals. We rely on steps taken at your request before a contract, or our legitimate interests in responding to business enquiries.
Customers and administration: to deliver agreed services, manage accounts, invoices and service communications. We rely on contract where the individual is our contracting party, legitimate interests when dealing with an organisation's staff, and legal obligations for required records.
Relevant business outreach: to identify organisations that may benefit from our services and contact professional decision makers through lawful channels. Our ground for processing personal information is legitimate interests, subject to a balancing assessment and applicable marketing rules. Where consent is required for a specific marketing channel, we obtain it. You can object to direct marketing at any time by replying to a message or contacting us.
Website operation and security: to run, protect and improve the site, prevent misuse and understand performance. We rely on legitimate interests for essential operation and security, and consent where required for optional cookies or similar technology. See our Cookie Policy.
4. Who receives information
Access is limited to people who need it for their work. We may share information with our hosting, email, CRM, analytics and professional service providers; specialist contractors engaged under appropriate safeguards; and authorities where required by law. We do not sell your personal information as a consumer data product.
5. International transfers and security
Some providers or specialists may process information outside the UK, including in the EEA or other countries. Where the law requires a transfer safeguard, we use a recognised adequacy arrangement or appropriate contractual safeguards and supplementary measures where needed. We use access controls and proportionate technical and organisational security measures, while recognising that no internet transmission is entirely risk free.
6. How long we keep it
We keep enquiry and prospect information while a potential business relationship remains relevant and review it at least annually; inactive prospect records are ordinarily removed or refreshed within 24 months of the last meaningful contact. Customer service records are kept for the duration of the relationship and then for the period reasonably needed to deal with claims, audits or legal duties. Company accounting and tax records are normally kept for six years from the end of the financial year to which they relate, or longer where law or an enquiry requires it. Security and website logs are kept only for the operational period needed to investigate incidents or protect the service. A minimal suppression record may be retained to honour an objection to marketing.
7. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or objection to our use of your data. You have an unconditional right to object to processing for direct marketing. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing. Contact info@mastiffcyber.com; we may verify your identity.
You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. If EU data protection law applies to your situation, you may also complain to your relevant EEA supervisory authority.
8. Updates and contact
We may update this notice when our activities or legal requirements change. The current version will be available on our website.
